Kindred Esaay

PWA:Kindred
Have you noticed that our society is not equal ? In the book, Kindred, Dana transfers back to time and she’s a slave, she cuts herself just to go back home. Dana helps many slaves escape but she’s the only one that can’t she gets whipped and screamed at. During this time period black people were slaves the women got raped by their masters and black men were put in the field to work mostly the whole day without a break and without getting payed. Octavia Butler was a woman who wrote this book to let people know that slavery and hegemony between men and women are still things that go on today. She wanted everyone to have the same rights and be equal no matter if you are a woman or man or because of your race or background. Imagine if you are treated with discrimination against your race you wouldn’t want that so why do that to other people.
First of all, our society still believe in sex-roles which according to men sex role they are aggressive, rational, dominant, and objective or “powerful” only because women didn’t have the right to vote back then it don’t mean men can get more rights than women. Most of the people say men are stronger than women but it’s not true women are humans they deserve the same rights as men. Women are passive, intuitive, submissive, and subjective. Even though people say women are weak they are wrong are smart, emotional, thoughtful, and ect. “So you’ll be rid of the man and have possession of the woman just as you wanted,” Dana said with disgust. “Rape rewarded.”(Pg.124)  This quote means that man used to take possession of slave women. This reminds me of history class because we learned of how slavery affects our society.
Second of all, hegemony between men & women affects our society by the “sex-roles” that still go on today. But women get oppressed more in our society, men decided if women worked out the house or if they have freedom to do anything like for example, women didn’t have the right to vote. But women worked hard to get equal rights. “Issac and Alice had four days of freedom together and the 5th day they were caught and on the 7th day Dana found out about it.” (pg.143) This quote means that Issac and Alice escaped to have freedom but then their “owners” found out and caught them and took them back. This quote reminds me of how Harriet Tubman helped slaves escape to freedom by the Underground Railroad.
Well like hegemony between men & women still go on today there’s ways that we can help to stop this unfair “sex-roles” that can go on like in the amendment says that all men should be created equal. But god said all humans had to be equal but this is what causes hate in some men & women. That’s why we have to take choices that will give people a message of how this hegemony is affecting us & our community. “She had the right to say no... We’ll see about her rights!” Rufus said (pg.123) This quote means that Rufus didn’t give Dana rights, unless he order her to do something. This quote reminds me of the movie we watched in history class of how slaves got treated and how they got desperate and took the choice to kill their “masters”.
In conclusion, this are the ways there is hegemony between men & women. This is how mostly women suffered because of how men took their freedom away and how they took possession of women in many ways. So people don’t listen to any oppression stuff because then you will internalize it and say is true but it’s not !!!

Lovee Poem

A Tear Streaming Down My Eyes
The Love I Need From My Parents
I Need Warmth From Their Hugs
The Experience I went Through When I Was A Little Girl
I Felt Left Out & I Don't Know How The Feeling Of Love Feels
                                                     How Does Love Feel ?
Throughout The Years I Lived I Went Through Many Obstacles
                                       I Always Needed Protection
But, I Never Got It Until Now
                                                                               I'm All Alone .....

TroubLesz Poem (;

I am that girl who you come & get advice
I am that girl who you know you can always trust
    when something goes wrong
I am that girl who always wants everything perfect
As Life goes by many people think I'm going to make
my dreams come true but..... you never know
I am that girl who thinks everyone should be equal
I am that girl who never gives up on her dreams
I am that girl that everyone thinks they know her but they don't
I am that special girl who will survive one day
I am that helpful girl that will give you help when you need it
I am that girl you are looking for......

College Trip Reflection

First of all, we went to 3 different colleges UC Santa Barbara , San Luis Obispo and UC Santa Cruz. On our way to the first college we were having fun in the bus by hearing music and doing other fun things when we got there to UC Santa Barbara well I didn't like this college because there wasn't anything interesting about this college only the beach but it smelled bad. I wouldn't apply to this college kind of spread out and it doesn't have the career I want to study. Also what I didn't like about this college is that you only can live in dorms for the first year.
After going to this college we went to our first motel I liked it because it was fancy and big and we all took a shower and went to each other's room and had fun. Then at 10 we went to sleep but I couldn't sleep because I had a big head ache and I had to call the teacher and she gave me a pill and that pill knocked me down. The next morning we went to eat breakfast and I was so tired that in the bus on our way to the next college I took a nap. I had a good experience at every college but the 2nd college San Obispo was the one I liked the most because it's not spread out and the buildings are more like a college big and together. The last college UC Santa Cruz I didn't really like it because it all spread out but the only thing I liked was the buffet where we went to eat the food was awesome I liked it a lot and I had a good experience of which college I liked and the college I want to go to is San Luis Obispo one day if I make it to college because I want to be a famous soccer player and be a doctor too.
In conclusion, this are all the good experiences I had in College For All with my friends I would want to go back to College For All one day maybe next year when I'm in 9th grade and go with the next 8th graders.

Dia De Los Muertos

For you, Marilu,
I put the shirt you gave me the last time
I saw you neatly in my closet
I remember when you used to call me "Patita" and
when we used to look out the window and spit on people's heads
I have the smell of the beautiful scent of the soap of the dishes that
we used to fight and get all wet
I imagine you coming back running towards me and screaming
my name saying you came back
If you come back I would say "I missed you this whole time you were gone!"
and give you a big hug
I will never take you off my heart, the tears coming down my face means
why you left me we had to be together forever
Since you are gone I feel alone in this world where is too hard
to trust somebody else that isn't you
The best memory I remember and I'll never forget is when
everytime I used to go to your house we would
do chores with the radio outloud and we would dance
This poem is to my biggest bestfriend Marilu that all the
times that we did together are going to stay deep inside.
              The Owner of My Heart!!
